Workshops & Panels

I have faciliated and hosted a number of figure drawing, graphic design, editorial design, motion design, graphic narrative design. and short film pitch package design workshops for both children and young adults. My portfolio of work includes presentations and panel talks, the latter of which I have both participated in and hosted. Most of my workshops are heavily rooted in concept, visual writing and tranformative storytelling through exploration of identity in both real and imagnined worlds, often combining both.

Co-hosted with concept artist Su Opperman, the How to Draw Your Own Superhero workshop formed a regular part of the comic book component of the Open Book Festival and featured regularly at the Cape Town Central Public Library, schools, tertiary institutions, literary and animation festivals across Cape Town. The focus of the workshops was for attendees to establish a unique superpower with a clear origin story, leaning on the application of mythology and the power of visual writing to transform negative experiences into things that can empower them.

Illustration, Figure Drawing

Figure drawing, observational sketching and motion studies remain one of my favourite pastimes and you'll often find me with my sketchbook or a piece of paper most mornings before work and between conversations, drawing people and animals from observations. Drawing forms the foundation of my design practice and helps me better define and resolve visual problems when illustrating or animating. I have hosted many live figure drawing workshops at various tertiary educational institutions across Cape Town including Vega School, SAE Institute, The Animation School and Cape Peninsula University of Technology, among other instituions. I have designed multiple character design and figure drawing curriculums in combination and thoroughly enjoy my figure drawing practice.
